Hitchin Boys’ School has been providing high quality education since the 1630s and we continue to support and develop students to achieve their own personal best. Our motto is ‘Per ardua ad alta’, which means Striving for Excellence. Tradition plays a huge part in the ethos of the school and our expectations are very high in terms of conduct, respect, courtesy and effort.

Our curriculum provides a wide, balanced and vibrant range of subjects, available to all students. Every boy will have extensive opportunities both within and outside the normal curriculum, both in terms of academic study and also vocational, artistic and sporting activities. We also have a well-deserved reputation for an outstanding provision of extra-curricular trips and outdoor learning.

As an Outstanding school we pride ourselves on offering a warm and friendly environment in which boys are encouraged to fulfil their academic potential whilst developing a solid foundation of spiritual, social, moral and cultural awareness. Hitchin Boys’ School helps all students to achieve according to their ability, and we celebrate success in many ways other than exam grades, ensuring that all our boys go on to the next step in their lives with a feeling of achievement and self-worth.

Hitchin Boys’ School is a demanding environment: we demand kindness and care for others; we demand courtesy and mutual respect; we demand enjoyment, happiness and enthusiasm. In return we are committed to caring for each and every one of our students and helping our young boys become well-rounded, successful young men.
